This document describes the software requirements for the Sun[tm] Patch Manager 2.0 (Patch Manager) release for Solaris[tm] 9 systems. It also describes how to obtain, install, and uninstall the Patch Manager software.
Sun Patch Manager 2.0 is available for both the SPARC[R] and x86 platforms.
An optional local patch server feature is available at no charge if you are a contract customer in the SunSpectrum[sm] program. For information about becoming a contract customer or obtaining the local patch server distribution, go to http://sunsolve.sun.com and click Patch Portal.

Whether you plan to run Sun Patch Manager 2.0 on a client system or on a local patch server, the system must meet the following requirements:
Operating System: Solaris 9, at least the Entire Solaris Software Group (SUNWCall or SUNWCXall)
Memory: 256 Mbytes of RAM
Software: Sun Patch Manager 2.0

The pmsetup command installs Sun Patch Manager 2.0, which includes the following:
Note: If you want to use a local patch server, install the local patch server distribution of this software instead of the command-line interface distribution. See ``How to Obtain and Install the Optional Sun Patch Manager 2.0 Local Patch Server Software.''
Note: If you want to use the Patch Manager browser interface, you must install the entire distribution of this software. See ``How to Obtain and Install the Entire Sun Patch Manager 2.0 Software Product.''
The pmsetup command also configures your patch management environment with a default configuration.
To view the configuration parameter values after you have installed the product, run the smpatch get command. To change any of the configuration parameter values, use the smpatch set command. See the smpatch(1M) man page.
Choose the software zip file to download.
Download the software zip file from the installation media.
Become superuser.
Extract the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 software from the zip file.
For a SPARC system, type:
# unzip pm2.0_s9_cli_sparc.zip
For an x86 system, type:
# unzip pm2.0_s9_cli_i386.zip
Change to the Patch_Manager_2.0 directory, and run the pmsetup command to install and configure Patch Manager.
# cd Patch_Manager_2.0 # ./pmsetup
Reboot the system to make the changes take effect.

Become superuser.
Extract the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 software from the zip file.
For a SPARC system, type:
# unzip pm2.0_s9_all_sparc.zip
For an x86 system, type:
# unzip pm2.0_s9_all_i386.zip
Change to the Patch_Manager_2.0 directory, and run the pmsetup command to install and configure Patch Manager.
# cd Patch_Manager_2.0 # ./pmsetup
If the Sun Web Console software is already installed on this system, it is reinstalled when you run pmsetup.
(Optional) If pmsetup detects that the version of JavaHelp that is installed in /usr/j2se is older than version 2.0, you can update it to run version 2.0, which is required by Sun Patch Manager 2.0.
(Optional) If pmsetup detects that an older version of Java is installed in /usr/j2se, you can update it to version 1.4.2, which is required by Sun Patch Manager 2.0.
Complete the installation.
If you have already installed the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 command-line interface distribution, you must restart the Sun Web Console server to access the browser interface application.
Type y to restart the Sun Web Console server.
Type n to postpone restarting the Sun Web Console server.
Before you try to access the Patch Manager browser interface, you must use the smcwebserver command to manually restart the Sun Web Console server. See ``How to Access the Sun Patch Manager Browser Interface (Web Browser)'' in the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 Administration Guide for the Solaris 9 Operating System.
If you have not already installed the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 command-line interface distribution, reboot the system to make the changes take effect.
If you have already installed the command-line interface distribution, you do not need to reboot the system.

Use the pmunsetup command to uninstall the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 software from your system.
Become superuser.
Run the pmunsetup command to uninstall Patch Manager.
# /usr/lib/patch/pmunsetup
The Solaris WBEM patch is removed, if possible, and the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 packages are uninstalled.
Reboot the system to make the changes take effect.
Use the pmunsetup command to uninstall the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 software from your system.
Become superuser.
Run the pmunsetup command to uninstall Patch Manager.
# /usr/lib/patch/pmunsetup
The Solaris WBEM patch is removed, if possible, and the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 packages are uninstalled.
If pmsetup installed other components, pmunsetup asks you whether to uninstall them.
(Optional) Uninstall the Sun Web Console software.
(Optional) Uninstall JavaHelp 2.0.
(Optional) Uninstall Java 1.4.2.
Reboot the system to make the changes take effect.
Use the pmunsetup command to uninstall the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 local patch server software from your system.
Become superuser.
Run the pmunsetup command to uninstall the Patch Manager local patch server software.
# /usr/lib/patch/pmunsetup
The Solaris WBEM patch is removed, if possible, and the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 packages are uninstalled.
Reboot the system to make the changes take effect.
